A walk around the Market Square

  • Distance: approx. 1 min walk
  • Best time: in the evening

The city's greatest atmosphere begins right outside your door. Colourful townhouses, the Town Hall, street artists and countless cafés create Wrocław's unique character. In the evening the Market Square has a completely different feel and is well worth seeing after dark too.

Peek into the side streets of Jaś and Małgosia and step beneath the Gothic Town Hall — one of the most beautiful in Europe. This is the most convenient place to begin a walk around the whole Old Town.

Ostrów Tumski (Cathedral Island)

  • Character: the oldest part of the city
  • Best time: in the evening

An evening walk through the oldest part of the city is almost a must. Historic streets, bridges and a unique atmosphere make a huge impression — it's one of the most photogenic places in Wrocław.

See the Cathedral of St John the Baptist and cross the Tumski Bridge. After dusk a lamplighter lights the historic gas lanterns — a ritual found in only a few places in Poland.

Oder boulevards & river cruise

  • On foot: 8–15 min to the pier
  • We recommend: a sunset cruise

One of the best ways to see Wrocław from a completely different perspective. A perfect spot for a walk, a morning coffee or an evening rest with a view of the river and the city skyline. Cruises along the Oder depart from the boulevards — we especially recommend the sunset cruise, with views of the historic bridges and Ostrów Tumski from the water.

Cruises depart from the pier by Bulwar Dunikowskiego and Wyspa Słodowa. It's also a great place for a morning coffee by the river.

Hydropolis

  • Getting there: approx. 10 min by car
  • For whom: children and adults

A modern knowledge centre about water housed in a historic underground reservoir. Interactive exhibitions, multimedia installations and impressive visual effects delight children and adults alike. Discover the secrets of the oceans and explore the deep from a brand-new perspective.

It's worth buying tickets online in advance — there can be queues at weekends. A visit usually takes 1.5–2 hours.

Kolejkowo

  • On foot: 15–20 min walk
  • For whom: the whole family

Poland's largest model railway — an extraordinary world of miniatures. Moving trains, towns, tunnels, mountains and thousands of small scenes from everyday life. A favourite of children and adults; many people come back again to discover more hidden details.

The model changes with the time of day — every few minutes dusk falls and thousands of tiny lights come on. A great idea for a rainy day.

Wrocław Multimedia Fountain

  • Getting there: 10–15 min by car
  • Best time: after dark

One of the largest multimedia fountains in Europe. The evening shows combine music, light and water into a remarkable spectacle. A perfect spot for a romantic walk or a family evening during your stay in Wrocław — it looks especially beautiful after dark.

Shows run in the spring and summer season, usually every hour after dusk. The fountain sits by the Centennial Hall and the Pergola — you can combine it with a visit to the Zoo.

Wrocław's Dwarves

  • Where: across the city centre
  • Start: from the Market Square

One of Wrocław's most distinctive attractions and a must during any visit. Hundreds of little figurines hidden in the streets, by bridges, restaurants and monuments — each with its own name, story and character. A great way to explore for children and adults alike; we recommend starting your search from the Market Square.

You'll find a dwarf map online or at tourist information points. The hunt is great fun for children during a walk around the centre.

Racławice Panorama

  • On foot: 10–15 min walk
  • Highlight: a painting over 100 m

A monumental painting over 100 metres long depicting the Battle of Racławice. Thanks to the special display, lighting and spatial effects, visitors feel as if they are right at the heart of the events. The sheer scale of the painting and the remarkable sense of immersion are truly impressive. Booking tickets in advance is recommended.

Admission is in sessions every half hour with a recorded narration — book your tickets ahead. The price often includes a combined ticket for the National Museum next door.

Wrocław Zoo & Afrykarium

  • Getting there: 10–15 min by car
  • Highlight: the Afrykarium

Poland's largest zoo and one of Wrocław's most recognisable attractions. Its biggest draw is the Afrykarium — the only facility of its kind in Poland, showcasing Africa's fascinating aquatic environments. Underwater tunnels, exotic species, penguins, hippos, sharks and remarkable marine landscapes create a place that stays in your memory for a long time.

It's worth setting aside half a day to explore the whole zoo. The Afrykarium can get busy — it's best to start there in the morning.
